In Brief: The Apology (2017) Human Rights Watch Film Festival 2017
A portrait of the former “comfort women” aka Japanese military sex slaves, who have been fighting for decades to get the Japanese government to apologize for their abuse.Very good portrait of a now dwindling number of women who have been fighting for justice and to reclaim their past despite official refusal and grand stupid comments on the part of the Japanese. Despite not adding much to the story of the ongoing nonsense It’s a portrait of some kick ass women, their pain and their ability to survive the most terrible treatment. It is a film that is heartbreaking, infuriating and occasionally funny (one can’t survive this long without a clever bon mot) it’s a film that will move you.
Highly recommended when the film plays this weekend at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival. For more information and tickets go here.
