Ariela Rubin's brief thoughts on Standing up, Falling Down (2019) Tribeca 2019
Standing Up, Falling Down is a movie about Scott,(Ben Schwartz) a 30 something year old struggling stand up comedian, who moves back with his family in Long Island, after giving comedy a try in LA. He soon meets Marty(Billy Crystal), a 60 something year old dermatologist by day, alcoholic by night. Scott's first encounter with Marty, is Marty peeing in a sink at a bar. They become friends.I loved this movie. It is a story of an unlikely friendship. It shows that people of different ages can make connections, and become friends. The chemistry between Scott and Marty was perfect. Their screen time together is what made the movie. Standing Up, Falling Down is both a comedy, and a drama. I laughed, and I cried. I definitely recommend seeing it.
