Concept Art Student Work

Last call for Concept Art, our evening class in visual development which is returning to Escape Studios on Wednesday 28th August 2019, taught by industry veteran Jonathan McFall.

Concept Art is a part-time evening class, taught one night a week, running for eight weeks.

Concept Art introduces students to the many techniques and skills that go up to make a well-rounded concept artist, including 3D and 2D software.

Concept Art is one of the most interesting and creative parts of our industry, requiring a broad skillset of 2D and 3D talents.

Concept Artists work closely with the director and the production designer, helping to determine the look and feel of a production.

Increasingly, concept artists work in-house at production houses to help visual effects studios sell their services, impressing clients with beautiful artwork and helping to land big VFX contracts.

When
Concept Art starts on Wednesday August 28th 2019, and runs for 8 weeks, from 7 until 10pm. The classes take place one night per week.

Tutor

What's involved?

Being a concept artist involves a broad range of skills, such as 3D software, 2D software, drawing and painting.  Jonathan introduces students to a wide variety of techniques, showing students how to achieve excellent results with a wide variety of different approaches.

Skill and Speed
Every shot is different, and part of the skill of the concept artist is knowing how to get the best result in the shortest amount of time.

After all, clients want great results and they want them quickly.

Jonathan shows students how to  combine 3D software with 2D techniques to create finished, polished artwork.

In-class exercises involve the creation of a simple 3D model, such as a castle, applying a basic texture, and then combining this with a photographic plate.
