MEGAHERTZ
A look at four friends in Stockholm told in a non’linear and experimental style.

Good looking film that really didn’t work for me. While I could appreciate what it was trying to do I really didn’t connect to it enough to say I liked it.

Worth a look for the adventurous, all others can take a pass.

HOLD BACK THE TIDE
This is Poetic look at oysters in and around New York. Full of stunning imagery and telling a story of clams and clamming in the city the film is a delight for the eye and ear. Recommended/

HEAVY RAIN FLOW SWEETLY
Director Shasha Li returns to Himalayan China to reconnect with her homeland and her family. Essay mixes with documentary in this celebration of where Li came from.  It’s a lovely cinematic poem that looks both lovingly and warily at the place that’s on the far side of the world for many of us.

Worth a look.

FANNY: THE OTHER MENDELSSOHN
Portrait of Fanny Mendelssohn who was over shadowed by her brother Felix.  

This is a really good look at someone who wrote some great music which odds are you never heard of. Supplementing Fanny’s story with the words of admirers this film is going to make you want out and get some recordings of her music.  I suspect that should this get to PBS the film will spark and new appreciation of Fanny.

Recommended.
