Sci-Fi Sunday: The Preserve Is A Play That Declares "The Future Is Female"

Dusky Projects presents The Preserve, a sci-fi short play that takes place in a future where women are an endangered species. The piece was developed at the Playwriting Collective Writers' Lab 2017 for The Future Is Female Festival.

The festival is a cross-country event throughout March of short plays by women of all backgrounds writing about their personal meaning for “The Future Is Female.” The festival, produced by Mya Kagan and Lauren Orkus, will feature work by about 130 women, reaching over 2,000 audience members. The Brooklyn Outpost is co-produced by Danielle Beckmann, Kate Garfield, and Paco Lozano-Wiese. 

The Future Is Female Festival: The Brooklyn Outpost is graciously funded by Jack Sharkey and all proceeds will go to S.O.U.L. Sisters, a leadership development organization that mobilizes young women in New York City & Miami, FL to interrupt cycles of poverty & violence. Their three programs, Sisterhood Academy, Youth Leaders Board and Youth Social Entrepreneurship, target court-involved, truant and homeless girls and include trauma-informed leadership development, restorative justice practices and arts-based social justice education & action. 

Dusky Projects focuses on works that explore sexism, racism and second class citizenship through a sci-fi and horror lens: “I want to build worlds. I think it is an engaging way to circumvent passivity, complacency, apathy and overall negligence,” states Wi-Moto Nyoka, transmedia artist, performer, and head of Dusky Projects. 

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017: The Preserve will receive its premiere staged reading at The Future Is Female Festival: The Brooklyn Outpost
