Horror Favorites With Chelsey The Stitchkeeper
It would be impossible not to notice the care and detail Chelsey, a.k.a. The Stitchkeeper puts into her handmade collectible likeness of horror's most known and obscure figures. Her grandmother taught her how to master the craft and since, the Edmonton and Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada native spends much of her time recreating our nightmares into coveted collectibles. There isn't a character she can't replicate with a pair of knitting needles or a crochet hook. As the owner of TalesFromTheStitch, she takes custom requests and has a modestly-priced stock of nods to Alien, Gremlins, American Horror Story to name a very few. Chelsey's creations have garnered the attention from Bloody-Disgusting, Joe Bob Briggs, Horrorfreak News, Demons star Geretta Geretta, and more. Catching her during a busy custom rush, I wanted to find out more about the craftswoman behind the 'went there' Angela Baker-Sleepaway Camp creation.
Favorite crocheted item you completed?
I made this Predator years ago when I first started crocheting and I absolutely love him. I honestly put so many hours into that bugger. I never did find it in my heart to sell him, he’s probably going to live with me forever.
Favorite celebrity response from an item you have made?
Well, I did make a Tiffany doll and Jennifer Tilly fell in love with it. After I sent it to her she actually ordered a bunch of dolls for the cast of the new Chucky movies. So now Don Mancini, Jennifer Tilly, Alex Vincent and Fiona Dourif all have dolls I created of themselves. Tony Gardner got one too and I was super nervous about making that one because I love FX work and knowing that this doll was going to go to someone who also creates horror dolls, kinda got me nervous, lol. But he liked it so my nerves are all good now.
I adore those adorable little dolls in Tale in Tales From The Hood. I remember renting that movie at the video rental store when I was around 12 years old and thinking it was going to be a cheesy blaxploitation horror film and it turned out it was an amazing movie. I’m pretty pumped to watch the second one once its released.
Favorite horror film with ghosts?
The Frightners! Even though I guess it was more horror/comedy there were still really creepy aspects of the film.
Favorite horror film with witches?
The Blair Witch. It’s one of those films where I am so happy that I got to be around to see the opening of it. The marketing for it was absolutely brilliant and even though when it first came out, I knew it was just a movie, it still left that nagging feeling in the back of my mind that it was real found footage.
Favorite horror film with demons?
Demons. I know the film is impossible to follow plot wise but it was so ridiculous and gory and fun. Hell, I’ve seen it a million times and I still have no idea what’s going on in the plot. Lol. But I still love it.
Favorite horror film with mirrors?
Can I say House? I know its not really strictly about mirrors but they story does kind of revolve around that medicine cabinet mirror.
Favorite horror film with snakes?
Will you judge me if I say Snakes on A Plane, lol? It was just a complete hot mess of a movie and I absolutely loved it.
Favorite horror film with aliens?
Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Ive watched that film countless times. I could talk for hours about it. It is honestly, in my opinion, the perfect film. The town, the characters, the FX work on those klowns, everything is just perfect.
Favorite horror film franchise?
The Evil Dead franchise is consistently good. There’s not a single Evil Dead film (or TV series episode) where I find myself not liking it just because I feel I need to be dedicated to the franchise. Evil Dead always pumps out solid content and I’m always super excited when something Evil Dead related comes out.
Favorite horror film hero?
Ash Williams. He was also one of my first on screen crushes, lol. He’s just a badass, batshit crazy character and no matter what those deadites throw at him he just keeps on kicking ass. He’s definitely the guy I want on my team in any horror situation.
Oh, I’m a Jason Voorhees girl. He’s just a giant kill beast that smashes through whatever is in his way. He’s awesome. And his kills are always super creative.
Favorite horror film comedy?
Bride of Chucky. I think that film was executed perfectly as a horror/comedy. I loved that along with some great kills, the film revolved around this ridiculous relationship between 2 possessed dolls.
Favorite horror film scene?
The scene in Aliens where Newt is in the water and the Alien rises up behind her. It’s a quick scene but its beautiful and i have always loved it.
Favorite horror film kill?
I absolutely adore the Jason Voorhees smashing someone against a tree in a sleeping bag kill. I know there’s cool gorier ones out there, but my heart just lies with the sleeping bag tree smash.
Favorite horror TV show?
Ash vs. Evil Dead. I’m not gonna lie, I’m still pretty salty that its over BUT it ended gracefully so I think I will get over it eventually.
Favorite horror book?
The Exorcist
Favorite horror collectible you own?
My Chucky and Tiffany dolls.
Horror film that you hate but everyone else loves?
Anything by M. Night Shyamalan. He has deceived me so many times with a film being portrayed as horror in the previews but completely not horror as a film. I know its petty for me to automatically hate all of his films because of this, but that’s just who I am.
Horror film that you love but everyone else hates?
Dead Alive. I know it has a cult following, so there’s people out there who love it. But the majority of people I talk to in real life absolutely could not stand that movie.
Horror film character that you hate but everyone else loves?
Jigsaw. I tried numerous times to get into the Saw movies, but something about them just rubs me the wrong way. Which is weird because gory films are usually a hit with me but I just couldn’t get into the Saw films.
Horror film character that you love but everyone else hates?
All the characters in Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. I know a lot of people have their hate on for that movie, but I really enjoyed it.
