Escape Studios Character Design Competition
Many congratulations to Cara Lambert, Sofia Antonova and Augusto Galvao who placed first, second and third in our character design competition. Escape Studios hosted a competition to find a new character to join our family of avatars (such as the ones above). Cara won a free place on our storyboarding evening class, Sofia won tickets to London Comic Con and Augusto won £100 of movie tickets. Congratulations to them all, and also to the runners-up, on their excellent work.1st Prize: Cara Lambert |
To enter the competition, the designers were asked to create a character in their own design style and in some way be related to the courses or the disciplines that we offer at Escape Studios.
The winning entries, ranked from 1 to 3, were selected by our new Character Design course tutor, Sam Nassour.

Our four week character design class, taught by Sam Nassour, and our evening class in character design, taught by Andrea Torrejon, teach the art and craft of designing characters for different media, with a strong focus on industry relevance.
Both classes are designed to take artists through all the stages necessary to submit polished character design work to studios, whether for TV, feature films, games or new media.
Learning character design isn't just about drawing cool characters; it is also about learning what the industry actually needs from a character designer - turnarounds, model packs and an animation "bible".
Character design is one of the most demanding, interesting and competitive parts of the pre-production process. Character designers work closely with the producer and director to determine the look and feel of a project.
Evening class in character design
Our character design evening class is taught by Andrea Torrejon, who worked as in-house designer on the new Disney TV Series "101 Dalmation St", working at Passion Pictures in Soho.
Andrea did character model sheets and turnarounds for the Angry Birds TV series, and Angry Birds: Stella. Andrea is also a great teacher, who gets excellent reviews from our students. "Andrea was fantastic, very motivating and knowledgeable" - is a typical review of her teaching style.
The Escape Studios Animation Blog offers a personal view on the art of animation and visual effects. To apply for our BA/MArt in 3D Animation, follow this link. To apply for our storyboarding evening class, visit this page here. For the next 12 week animation course, click here.
