I'm Gonna Make You Love Me (2019) DOC NYC 2019

Cinematic portrait of  Brian Belovitch who went from being a gay young man to being an army wife, to a well known performer named Tish before returning to his life as Brian. It is a marvelous portrait of a life long quest to be one's self and be happy with who you are.

The best thing I can say about the I'M GONNA MAKE YOU LOVE ME is that when it was done I wanted to run out and find Brian so I could sit down and talk with him. I honestly don't know what I'd say but I just want to meet him and shake his hand and maybe give him a big bear hug. There is something so wonderful and charming about him that just knowing that someone like him is out there give me hope for the world. We need more people who are rays of sunshine in the darkness.

Yes, I loved this film and everyone in it. Brian's friends are charming and his husband Jim is peach (I love his comment that gave voice to what was in my head- Brian is a real life Hedwig). This is good time with good people.

I know you're wondering what sort of review is this, I mean I'm not talking about the film. To hell with it, this is not a film but a record of a life and as such is something more than a film. This is testament to surviving and a monument to just living. This is a film that shows we must never stop trying to find out who we are. Yes Brian has ups and downs but at the same time he keeps trying to find the place he will be happiest. There is something to be learned from that.

I loved this film. I loved it's subject and all of the people in orbit around him.

Highly recommended. This is one of the must sees at DOC NYC
