Parkour Tutorial with Paloma Zhu

We've uploaded a new parkour animation tutorial to our expanding Vimeo channel; this time a parkour animation shot by Paloma Zhu; you can find it here.

The shot was originally animated by Paloma on the short film "Street Ratz", which was nominated for Best Trailer at the Assurdo Film Festival.  In this tutorial, Paloma shows how she created live action reference clips and edited them together to block out her animation, ensuring realism, accuracy and believability.

In this tutorial, Paloma shows how to edit together and use live action reference clips to block out animation, showing how to tackle complex actions. It's a similar process to that demonstrated by Amedeo Beretta in his new Body Mechanics Tutorial. 

Paloma demonstrates how to shoot live action reference, and also source live action clips online, editing them together to create a live action version of the shot to use as reference. This is a similar approach to the "Frankenstein" approach demonstrated by Oz Gani from Framestore.

Street Ratz
"Street Ratz" is a teaser/trailer written directed by Austin Hill, a graduate student at Escape Studios studying for his MA in Storyboarding & Previsualisation. 

The film was a collaboration between storyboard MA students, undergraduate students in the final fourth year of our BA/MArt in the Art of Computer Animation, undergraduate animators in their second year of studies, and the Pearson College Business School.  You can find Street Ratz here at the IMDB.

Paloma Zhu
Paloma Zhu is a student at Escape Studios, currently entering her third year of animation studies. she directed the short film "Hotel Aloha", which is currently being entered into festivals. You can see her demo reel below.
