Brief word on Rise Again: Tulsa and the Red Summer (2021) which plays Nat Geo June 18
A look at the period from 1917 to 1923 when the Jim Crow laws were in full Bloom. The title references the summer of 1919 which was termed "Red Summer" because of the number of racially motivated massacres that occurred across the US. It focuses primarily on what happened in Tulsa, including the infamous, and until recently little discussed Tulsa Massacre.
This is a good look at racism in America over the last century. It is the story of the fight for survival that was fought by the African American community of America and particularly Tusla who is working to reclaim the lost history.
While I could quibble there really is no point since the film is an excellent primer on early 20th century racism and the effect it had on everything that followed.
Worth a look when the film hits Nat Geo tomorrow and Hulu the next day.
